Antique Art Deco Era Japanese Hand Carved 'Vegetable Ivory' Monkey Ojime Pendant with 9ct Fittings

£29.00
sold out

This unique antique pendant dates from around 1920 and is made of hand carved ‘vegetable ivory’ (a variety of nut) in the form of a monkey. The pendant is converted from a Japanese Ojime which is a bead and cord fastener for a Japanese carrying case. As such this monkey pendant has a hole at the top and bottom on the reverse, which the Ojime cord would have passed through. The fittings are 9ct gold.

The pendant measures 2.7cms height (including the gold bale but excluding the top suspension ring) and it weighs 2.1g

There are no hallmarks on the bale / fittings but they test as 9ct yellow gold.

This hand carved pendant is in good original condition with no damage and showing light signs of age / general wear.
