This beautiful and sentimental antique brooch is made of fully hallmarked 9ct rose gold and dates from 1909. The brooch is in the form of a swallow within a wishbone and is loaded with symbolism: in antique jewellery a wishbone symbolised good luck and hope while the swallow represented everlasting love, faithfulness and the promise of a safe return. The brooch is set with ten seed pearls.

The reverse of the brooch is stamped ‘9’ and ‘375’ for 9ct gold, along with hallmarks showing that it was made in Chester in 1909. The side of the brooch is also stamped ‘9’ and ‘375’. The pin itself is not gold.
