Antique Edwardian 9ct Gold Heart Locket Pendant
This antique locket pendant dates from the Edwardian era and is in the form of an opening heart with two locket compartments inside. The front of the locket has an attractive engraved pattern and the back is plain (apart from the hallmark). The locket is of the 9ct gold ‘back and front’ variety, which means that the front and back of the locket are made of 9ct gold and that the frame and inner securing rings are made of a gold coloured metal (which improves the locket’s strength and durability). The inside of the locket has two original purple backing papers, two inner heart shaped securing rings and one Perspex type protective cover. The top suspension ring is made of 9ct yellow gold.
The locket has a height of 2.3cms (excluding the bale and suspension ring) and it weighs 3.8g
The reverse of the locket is stamped ‘9CT B&F’ for 9ct gold ‘back and front’ (see above for detail).
This antique locket pendant is over 100 years old and shows light signs of age and general wear / use. The front of the locket is in good condition showing light general wear, the reverse shows light wear and has a couple of lightly dented areas (highlighted in one of the photos). The inside shows light signs of age and use. The locket opens easily and closes securely with a click. The top 9ct gold suspension ring has not been soldered closed.
