Rare Antique Georgian 9ct Gold, Agate and Woven Hair Maltese Cross Mourning Pendant

£125.00
sold out

This rare, large, stunning and collectable antique Maltese Cross pendant dates from around 1830 -1840 and is made of solid light grey agate, with 9ct yellow gold mounts and decoration. The agate is translucent. The centre of the pendant is set with a finely woven hair panel (please note that the square glass hair locket cover is missing).

The pendant measures approximately 3cms x 3cms (excluding the mounts / suspension ring) and weighs approximately 7.1g

As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the mounts and fittings have been professionally tested and have been found to be composed of 9ct yellow gold.

This antique pendant is around 180-190 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing just light signs of age/ wear. There is no damage to the agate other than one small edge chip top the top section (not obvious as it is on the side). There would originally have been a glass or rock crystal locket cover to the central hair section but this is no longer in place.
