Antique Georgian 9ct Gold, Pinky Red Paste and Seed Pearl Ring
This lovely antique ring dates from around 1820 - 1830 and is made of 9ct gold, with a silver pearl setting. The ring is set with a central, vibrant, pinky red paste stone, which is surrounded by genuine, natural, seed pearls, all in a closed back setting. The ring has split shoulders and a reeded shank all the way around.
The ring is a UK size O and a half / between a US size 7 - 7.5 and it weighs 1.4g
As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the ring has been professionally tested and is made of 9ct yellow gold, with a silver pearl setting.
This antique ring is around 200 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing light signs of age / general wear (less than you would expect considering its age). Under magnification, the central red stone has a couple of very small fleabite sized nicks, but these cannot be seen with the naked eye. The seed pearls all appear to be original; when the ring is viewed from one side, the seed pearls appear to be drilled (in the same way pearls found on a necklace are drilled for threading) and one is set at a slight angle. The shank has a little variation in finish and discolouration in the central back area, possibly from an original join or a historic re-sizing. This is a finely made ring and it is not heavy. It sits very nicely on the finger.
