This unusual antique locket pendant dates from the Victorian era and is made of a 9ct gold and enamel front with a glazed locket compartment to the reverse. The front features ornate foliate engraving detail with blue and white enamelling. The reverse of the locket bears the original photo of a young child under a glass cover. It’s likely that a goldsmith / jeweller could remove the glass cover so that the photo could be removed / replaced, but I cannot guarantee this.
The locket measures 2.8cms height (excluding the bale and suspension ring) x 2.3cms maximum width and it weighs 4.8g
As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks; the locket tests as a 9ct gold front with gold coloured metal frame and base metal suspension ring.
This antique locket is in very good condition for its age, with no damage and showing light signs of age / general wear. The gold front is in very good condition with no damage or enamel loss and showing just light general wear. The glass cover is also in very good condition with no chips; it appears there is some dust / very light superficial spot marks on the underside of the glass next to the photo, which is also in good condition. The top suspension ring shows superficial wear and is fully closed.
