This sweet and collectable antique seal / fob / pendant dates form the Victorian era. The seal is made of a gold tone metal, possibly brass (not gold). The base is set with a black glass plaque which has been engraved with a pansy and the words ‘FORGET ME NOT’ around it. Pansies were used in Victorian jewellery to embody the sentiment of thinking of / remembering someone and the meaning was derived from the French for ‘think’ (pense - similar in sound to pansy) as in think of me / remember me. Due to the use of the colour of glass (black) this is possibly a mourning item.

The seal measures 1.7cms height (excluding the top suspension ring) and the base measures 1.3cms x 1.1cms.

The seal weighs 3.4g

There are no hallmarks (there is no precious metal content)

This antique seal is around 130 - 150 years old and shows signs of age / use / wear in consistent with its age. Please see all photos for full detail. The top suspension ring has been cut and is not soldered closed.
