This unusual antique / vintage ‘lucky sweep’ charm is made of hallmarked 14ct yellow gold. The front of the charm is enamelled in black and white.
Chimney sweeps were considered lucky as it’s believed that during the 1700s a chimney sweep saved the life of King George II by stopping his runaway horse and carriage. Because of this the king issued a Royal Decree that chimney sweeps were bringers of good luck and should be treated with respect. Chimney sweeps are still considered lucky to this day, in particular they are said to bring good luck and a happy future to a bride and groom if they are blessed by one on their wedding day.
The charm measures 1.2cms height (excluding the top suspension ring) and it weighs 0.5g
The reverse of the charm bears a faint ‘585’ stamp (for 14ct gold) and also a maker’s stamp. The charm has also been professionally tested and is made of solid 14ct yellow gold.
This antique / vintage charm is in very good condition for its age, with no damage and showing just very light signs of age / general wear. The top suspension ring has not been soldered closed.
