Beautiful Antique Victorian Gold Cased, Foiled Citrine and Bloodstone Watch Key
This beautiful, unusual and decorative antique watch key dates from the Victorian era and is gold cased. The terminal is set with a foiled citrine (either natural or paste) and a natural bloodstone teardrop shaped plaque. The watch key’s sides have lovely foliate carving detail. I have no way of testing for functionality, but looking at the ‘working’ end I can see no reason why this watch key would not still work as a winder. The bale moves around independently of the rest of the key, to facilitate the winding action. This beautiful key is a little work of art and would make a lovely pendant.
The watch key measures 3.4cms length (including the top suspension ring) and it weighs 2.4g
As is often the case with items of this type, there are no hallmarks. The watch key has been professionally tested and is gold cased, which means that there is a heavy layer of gold plating over metal. The key part is made of steel (under the gold casing) for durability.
This watch key is around 140 years old and is in very good condition for its age, with no damage and showing just light signs of age and general wear / use.
