This rare and exquisite antique necklet dates from around 1910 and is made of hallmarked 9ct gold. The gold has a lovely aged, mellow tone and is somewhere between yellow gold and rose gold in colour. The necklet is set with two peridots, an almandine garnet and two baroque pearls. This elegant and dainty necklet measures 15.5” in length, which is slightly shorter than the standard 16” length we tend to see today (please make sure the length is suitable before purchasing). The necklet is set with a secure bolt ring clasp.
Suffragette jewellery was worn by women to show solidarity and allegiance to the movement, at a time when actions taken by the suffragettes to try and secure the vote were illegal. The message of support was ‘hidden’ the symbolism of the stones: suffragette jewellery from this period used green, white and violet gemstones to convey the message ‘Give Women Votes’, the initial from each word represented by a gemstone (in this case the peridot represents green, the pearls white and the almandine garnet violet).
The necklet measures 15.5” in length and it weighs 3.0g
The clasp is stamped ‘9C’ for 9ct gold and the end chain link is stamped ‘9CT’
This antique necklet is over 100 years old and is in very good condition for its age, with no damage and showing just light signs of age and general wear. The clasp is in secure working order.
