Good Size Antique Edwardian (1909) 9ct Gold Locket Pendant
This antique locket pendant is made of fully hallmarked 9ct yellow gold and dates from 1909. The locket has two glass covers and houses what appears to be hand painted miniatures of two different Edwardian women. The locket frame has decorative engraving detail on both sides and has an attractive, secure, bale. The locket is opened by unscrewing the top bale which then opens the gold frame and releases the glass covers.
The locket measures 3.6cms x 2.8cms and it weighs 8.4g
The base of one side of the frame is stamped ‘9.375’ for 9ct gold, along with hallmarks showing that it was made in Chester in 1909. There is also a maker’s mark.
This antique locket is 116 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing just light signs of age / general wear. The glass covers are in good condition. The painted miniatures are in good condition; looking from some angles it appears that there might have been a little moisture ingress on the bottom edge at some point. The glass covers are secure in the frame; the glass currently sits fractionally higher in the frame in one area on one side, but the two paintings have card between them and the locket contents would probably fit more snugly within the frame if the the locket was less ‘full’.
