Large, Rare, Antique Georgian (c.1800 - 1820) Foiled Paste and Seed Pearl Crucifix Pendant
This substantial and rare antique pendant dates from around 1800 - 1820 and is in the form of a crucifix. The crucifix is set with plum coloured, flat cut, paste stones in typically Georgian crimped collet settings. The paste stones are foil backed and reflect the light nicely. There are a total of twelve lustrous, genuine, seed pearls set in pairs. The setting is base metal but the top suspension bale tests as 9ct gold.
The crucifix measures 5.5cms x 3.6cms and it weighs 8.1g
There are no hallmarks; the setting is base metal and the top suspension bale tests as 9ct gold.
This antique pendant is at least 200 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing signs of its age and having been worn. One of the paste stones is a replacement. The paste stones are in good condition, a couple of showing light surface scratches but nothing significant. There are differences in the foil backing on three of the stones, possible from moisture ingress? The setting is robust and the top suspension bale is in very good condition.
