This impressive, good size, antique locket pendant is made of fully hallmarked Sterling silver and dates from 1876. The front of the locket has a raised / textured design and the reverse is plain (apart form the hallmark). Inside there is one glazed locket section with original backing paper.
The locket measures 4cms x 3.3cms (excluding the suspension ring and bale) and it weighs 12.7g
The reverse of the locket is stamped with the lion passant (for Sterling silver), along with hallmarks showing that it was made in Birmingham in 1876. There is also a maker’s mark of ‘J&FS’. The bale is also stamped with the lion passant.
This antique locket is 150 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing just light signs of age / general wear. There is no damage to the glass protective cover. The locket opens easily and closes securely with a click. I have not tried to remove the glass protective cover from the locket compartment, but it looks like it can be prised out and re-fitted after a photo has been inserted. It may need a professional jeweller to do this.
