


























Rare Antique Victorian Grand Tour 9ct Gold Lava Cameo Stickpin Depicting Dante, Cased
This rare and collectable antique Grand Tour souvenir dates from the Victorian era. The terminal is a hand carved lava cameo which depicts the Italian poet Dante. The pin itself is made of 9ct rose gold. The reverse of the cameo has the word ‘DANTE’ carved into it.
The stickpin measures 7.5cms length and the terminal measures 1.9cms height.
As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the pin has been professionally tested and is made of 9ct rose gold.
This antique stickpin is around 140 years old and is in very good condition for its age, with no damage to the carving detail. Under magnification it can be seen there are a few very very fine hairline cracks to the surface of the cameo. The pin is nice and straight. The inside of the case is in very good condition, the exterior is sound showing light signs of age / general wear; there is a small pin prick type hole to the reverse of the case. The case opens easily and closes securely with a click.
