








Rare, Collectable, Vintage (1959) 9ct Gold Sputnik 1 Charm
This rare and collectable vintage charm is made of fully hallmarked 9ct yellow gold and dates from 1959. The charm is in the 3D form of Sputnik 1, which was the first artificial earth satellite launched by the Soviet Union in 1957. The launch of Sputnik 1 marked the start of the space age and also the start of the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union.
The charm measures 2.1cms x 2.3cms and it weighs 0.7g (it’s hollow).
The charm is stamped ‘9’ and ‘375’ for 9ct gold, along with hallmarks showing that it was made in London in 1959. There is also a ‘9CT’ stamp and a maker’s mark of ‘FM’.
This vintage charm is 66 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing light signs of age / general wear. The front of the charm is in very good condition, the reverse (the hallmarked side) has a couple of very small, light, dents consistent with average wear for a charm of this age. The ‘spikes’ are in very good condition. The top suspension ring has not been soldered closed.
