This stunning antique brooch dates from around 1910 and is made of 9ct yellow gold. The brooch is centrally set with a very colourful, cabochon cut, natural opal. The opal looks its best when worn against a dark background and shows predominantly blues and greens in different lights with a nice, even play of colour.
The brooch bar measures 5.2cms length and the opal itself has a height of 8.5mm (including the gold mount).

There is an unclear hallmark on the brooch pin; the brooch has been professionally tested and is made of solid 9ct yellow gold.
This antique brooch is over 100 years old and is in very good condition for its age showing just light signs of age / general wear. Under magnification, in some lights it can be seen that there is a faint ‘line’ inside the opal: this is naturally occurring and doesn’t reach the surface.
