This stunning, substantial, sparkly antique marquise shaped ring is made of hallmarked 9ct yellow gold and dates from 1863. The ring front is set with a vibrant garnet paste, surrounded by clear paste stones. The claw setting around the stones is silver and the rest of the ring is 9ct yellow gold (the underside of the ring setting is a slightly rosier gold than the band itself).
The ring is a UK size V and a half / between a US size 10.5-11 (this is a large size ring)
The marquise shaped ring front measures 2.2cms x 1cm maximum width
The back of the ring shank is stamped ‘9’ and ‘375’ for 9ct gold, along with hallmarks showing that the ring was made in Birmingham in 1863. The hallmarks are a little worn but can be made out under magnification.
This antique ring is 162 years old. The central red paste stone is in very good condition, the clear stones show light to moderate general surface wear, but they still sparkle and all appear to be original. The gold band is in good condition showing just light general wear.
