Substantial Antique Victorian (1882) Sterling Silver Locket Pendant Necklace

This substantial antique locket pendant is made of fully hallmarked Sterling silver and dates from 1882. The locket front has a central oval panel which is engraved with an ivy leaf design, the outer rings have decorative detail and the reverse is plain (except for the hallmark). Inside, one half of the locket has a backing card and an inner securing ring and the other half is empty. The locket is suspended from a hallmarked 18” Sterling silver foxtail link chain which is not antique.

The locket measures 4.5cms x 3.5cms (excluding the suspension bale and ring) and the chain is 18” in length.

The locket and chain have a combined weight of 15.7g

The reverse of the locket is stamped with the lion passant (for Sterling silver), along with a Birmingham stamp and a date mark for 1882. There is also a maker’s mark. The chain’s clasp and large end link are both stamped ‘925’ for Sterling silver.

This antique locket is 143 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing just light signs of age / general wear. The chain is in very good condition with a secure clasp. The locket opens easily and closes securely with a click.
