Substantial Antique Victorian Double Sided Hair Mourning Swivel Locket Brooch
This substantial and collectable antique brooch dates from the Victorian era. The brooch is of the swivel design whereby the central glazed, double sided, locket turns within the outer frame. One side of the locket houses an ornate and intricate hair arrangement and the other side is empty (apart from the fabric backing) but has been designed to hold a portrait miniature or early photo.
The brooch measures 5.8cms x 5cms and it weighs 30.3g
There are no hallmarks; the brooch has been professionally tested and is gold plated. The pin itself is a gold coloured metal.
This antique brooch is around 150 years old. There is one section of decorative leaf missing from the front, but apart from this the locket is in very good condition showing just light signs of age / general wear. The glazing on the locket compartments is in very good condition and the pin / clasp are in secure working order.
