This unusual and symbolic antique locket pendant dates from the Edwardian era and is made of 9ct rose gold ‘back and front’. The front of the locket features a harp motif and the reverse of the locket has an engraved anchor. When the harp and anchor appear together in antique jewellery, they symbolise steadfast hope (the anchor) and divine harmony (the harp). Together they represent a grounded, faithful approach to life, love and spiritual peace.
This locket is of the 9ct gold ‘back and front’ variety, which means that the front and back covers are made of 9ct gold and the frame and inner securing rings are made of a gold coloured metal (for added strength and stability). Please note that, while this locket pendant is fully wearable, the back panel has condition issues (see below).
The locket measures 2.7cms height (excluding the suspension bale and ring) x 2.2cms maximum width.
The locket weighs 5.7g
As is sometimes the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks; the locket has been tested and is made of 9ct gold ‘back and front’.
This locket is over 100 years old. The front of the locket is in very good condition, with no dents or damage and showing just light signs of age / general wear. The back panel of the locket (with the engraved anchor) is very thin; although not obvious from the outside, when viewed from the inside it can be seen that the gold is thin and there is a hairline crack in one area. The locket can still be worn and used. Apart from one inner securing ring, the locket is empty inside. The condition of the back panel is reflected in the price.
