This lovely, good size, decorative, antique watch key dates from around 1820 - 1830. The watch key is gold cased and showcases gorgeous scrolling and foliate engraving detail. One side of the watch key is set with a foiled amethyst and the other side with a foiled citrine. The top bale turns around fully / independently of the key itself. This would be a lovely addition to any watch key collection but would also make a stunning and unique pendant.
The watch key measures 4.6cms length (including the bale) and it weighs 6.8g
As is usually the case with this type of item there are no hallmarks. The watch key tests as gold cased.
This antique watch key is around 200 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing just light signs of age / general wear. There are no chips to the amethyst or citrine, which show just very light superficial wear under magnification (nothing obvious to the naked eye). There is no wear to the gold casing other than at the tip of the ‘key’ part. I have no way of testing whether this still functions as a watch key, but I have no reason to believe it wouldn’t as the ‘key’ part retains its original shape. It’s possible that the foil backing to the amethyst and citrine has degraded in some areas as fragments of a different colour can be seen at the back of the stones.
